Qld: Beattie tries to head off factional war
Queensland Labor Premier PETER BEATTIE will attempt to head off a bitter factional
brawl within his party this weekend ahead of a preselection battle on Monday for the Bundamba
by-election.
The ALP will decide on Monday which candidate will run in the by-election next February
following the resignation of long-standing Labor MP BOB GIBBS early this week.
The fight is brewing between supporters of Bundamba electorate secretary JO-ANN MILLER
and Queensland Council of Unions state secretary JOHN THOMPSON.
Mr BEATTIE, speaking during a visit to a shopping centre in the electorate in Brisbane's
outer west, said today he will make his views on the candidates well known before the
preselection.
Meanwhile, Mr BEATTIE has labelled a newspaper poll showing the ALP with 37 per cent
of the primary vote, as inaccurate.
