Fed: Farm and mineral exports to hit record high

Australia's chief commodities forecaster says farm and mineral exports will hit a record
$83.9 billion this financial year.

The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics says commodities exports
will rise 16 per cent on the 1999-2000 result.

Farm sector exports are forecast to rise 13 per cent to $26.4 billion.

However, despite higher world prices, wheat exports will decline due to the recent
floods wiping out crops in large areas of New South Wales and Queensland.

The value of energy exports is forecast to rise 27 per cent to $23.5 billion, on top
of a rise of 28 per cent in the previous year.

Export earnings for metal-based minerals and metals are forecast to rise from $26.0
billion to $30.5 billion.
