SYDNEY, Aug 26 AAP - The search for two men reported missing in huge seas at the heightof a Sydney windstorm has been called off.
NSW Police concluded their search last night after receiving reports on Sunday thatone or two swimmers had been dragged out to sea off South Curl Curl Beach, on Sydney'snorthern beaches.
The police airwing, Westpac Rescue and CareFlight helicopters all scoured the areauntil 9.30pm (AEST) Sunday when they were forced to call off the search due to deterioratingconditions.
Foot patrols of the foreshore area continued that night and the full scale search resumedat 7am yesterday.
However, a police spokeswoman today said while initial reports were believed to becredible, it was likely the swimmers had left the water by their own means.
"Following extensive searches by aircraft, surf life savers and police on Sunday nightand Monday, no property or unaccounted (for) vehicles were located at beaches in the areaand no reports of missing persons have been received," police said in a statement.
"As a result of all that information the search was called off."
