FED: NSW unions post conditions on ACTU/Vizard Internet deal

New South Wales unions have signalled to the ACTU that they will not tolerate an Internet
services deal with entrepreneur STEVE VIZARD which they say undermines unions.

The proposal, put to the ACTU by Mr VIZARD earlier this year, includes a home computer for
as low as $300, Internet access for as little as $5 a month, on-line services and ultimately,
web-TV under a 10-year contract.

Virtual Communities, part of Mr VIZARD'S company Artist Services, could earn an estimated
$130 million if just 100,000 of Australia's 2.3 million union members sign onto the deal.

But the New South Wales Labor Council has set down a number of criteria for the deal
including that it is in members' interests and profits are reinvested in the union movement.
